Piranhas are voracious predators,
dangerous even to
humans. They are not ideal fish for home aquariums, as
they will bite anything that moves and have no respect for
for the hand that feeds them. In the wild, prowling schools
of piranhas quickly appear whenever a commotion in the
water signals a possible meal.

The size
of the victim is never a discouragement. Each fish makes lightning
dashes to slice off bits of flesh with its razor sharp teeth. A large school
of piranha can cut a hog-sized animal into unidentifiable pieces within minutes.
The piranha pictured here were caught in the Amazon River Basin and were
being sent to a Canadian aquarium, but died enroute. I was ecstatic to get
them and was even more pleased at the beautiful and delicate prints I was
able to get.
